-
Is there a recommended maximum moisture content for the wood before you can safely apply your stain and seal product? I recently purchased a trailer with pressure treated decking and want to apply a water proof sealer but want to be sure I can apply this. Or should I let it age some before I apply?
We recommend that the wood have a 13% moisture content before staining. Depending on the area you live in, we typically see new wood reach 13% in 2-3 weeks of dry, sunny weather.

I used a water based product on my fence about 4 years ago and it's fading pretty bad. Can this be applied over the old stain?
EXPERT Stains cannot be applied over an exisiting water based coating, I'm sorry.
The water based or film forming product created a barrier that oil will not penetrate. A full chemical strip and restoration would be required to apply EXPERT Stains. -
Hello. Is this stain a 1 or 2 coat system?
1 coat. We don't recommend applying 2 coats of EWC stain.

Hi, Can your Expert semi solid wood stain be applied using a sprayer? If so, does it need to be thinned out & would that make it less effective? I was originally going to use a semi transparent stain but I’d like more longevity. I’m staining a pine fence. Thanks in advance!
Expert Stain & Seal can be applied with any method. Air sprayer, brush, roller, you name it!

It's going to be hot and humid when i plan to apply this, probably in the 90s. Is it still ok to use the stain and sealer in those conditions? Or will the stain dry too fast? My fence was installed a few days ago so I need to stain soon.
You can apply EXPERT Stain & Seal when it is hot or cold outside. It may require extra mixing if it has sat in the heat.
Please make sure to clean your fence even if it is new. Eco-cleaner would be the recommended cleaner for a new fence. -
What is the clean up method? What is the typical drying time to the touch? To walking on? If a second coat is needed, how long between coats? If a brush is used, what type of brush is best? Synthetic, natural bristle?
Hi Claire,
The clean-up method depends on the surface it has contaminated. Dish soap and water or our Degreaser will work great to remove it from anything non-porous.
Drying time depends on the blend and environment. Transparent and semi-transparent will be dry to the touch in 24 hours or less in the sun. Semi-solids can take a little longer, but should be around the same if excess is wiped off after application.
We generally would not recommend a second coat. One coat is all you should need if you apply the correct amount. If you want a darker shade, our stain can be applied over itself fine.
Typically, natural bristle brushes are best for oil-based stains. However, you can really apply our stain with any method as long as the surface is properly prepared.

Can the color "Palomino" be mixed in a semi-transparent formula or is it only for the semi-solid formula? Thanks!
Hi Catherine,
We don't recommending mixing a semi-transparent stain and a semi-solid stain. Both have different formulations for different application requirements. Newer, smoother decking requires a semi-transparent or a transparent while older, rougher decking is more permeable and will require a semi-solid.
If you really want to, the team said it would be OK to add.
