REAL PERFORMANCE. Use & Preparation.
EXPERT’s Wood Brightener is STEP 2 of our 3-STEP system. Intended for use on all types of weathered wood, including decks, fences, siding, log homes, patio furniture and other exterior wood.
EXPERT’s Wood Brightener is ideal for surface prep prior to stain application. Product can be used solely as a cleaner and brightener, or as a neutralizer to further brighten woods that have been previously cleaned or stripped.
TEST AREA: It’s recommended to test this product in a small, inconspicuous area to ensure desired results before use. Raised grain can occur as wood pores are opened during the cleaning process.
LIMITATIONS: EXPERT Clean & Bright Wood Brightener cannot remove intact paint, stain, or clear finishes, and may dull painted or metal surfaces if not rinsed immediately. Always store in a temperature-controlled room, kept from freezing, and can be stored for up to 36 months, unopened.
REAL APPLICATION. Easy-to-Use & Clean-Up.
Read through all the step-by-step instructions prior to using EXPERT®™ Clean & Bright Wood Brightener.
MIXING: Always wear heavy-duty rubber gloves, niosh approved respirator and PPE when working with EXPERT Clean & Bright Wood Brightener, or any other EXPERT Clean & Bright products. Mix 4oz to 8oz of Wood Brightener with each gallon of warm water and stir thoroughly until powder is mostly dissolved. Mix in a separate 5-gallon pail before transferring into a pump sprayer. This avoids clogging the sprayer. Use Brightener solution within 24 hours of mixing. Wood Brightener mixed solution is colorless for ease of identification.
APPLICATION: Thoroughly wet the treatment surface, and all surrounding areas, including plants and shrubs with water before application. Apply EXPERT Clean & Bright Wood Brightener solution using either the sprayer, or a brush, a car wash brush, or mop. Scrubbing is not needed after using EXPERT’s Cleaner or Stripper. Let the Brightener solution sit for 5 to 15 minutes, keeping it wet with additional solution until an obvious color change has occurred.
If applying Brightener on vertical surfaces, begin at the bottom, working upwards. Repeat application, if needed.
RINSE: Rinse surfaces and surrounding areas thoroughly for 20 to 30 minutes with water from a hose or pressure washer using lowest pressure. Rinse wood and surrounding surfaces thoroughly, never let solution dry on windows, siding, metal and other surfaces or residue may be visible.
Allow wood surfaces to dry 48 to 72 hours (or longer) before applying EXPERT Stain & Seal wood stains. Stains must be applied when wood is dried to 13% moisture content or less.

Is EXPERT Clean & Bright | Wood Brightener: 100% Oxalic Acid toxic for plants and grass?
It is not recommended to spray Wood Brightener or any restoration product directly on plants, grass, or landscaping. There are a few ways we have found to make sure vegetation stays protected such as covering with a breathable drop cloth during application or keeping the area misted/watered during chemical application. It is always a good practice to rinse the vegetation after the final rinse of your project as well.

Hi. I need to stain my large deck. It has been three or four years since it has been done. Planning to again do a darker semi transparent. It is approximately 20 years old and in great shape. I can send pictures if needed. I have a friend in Texas who owns a successful deck refinishing business, and he suggested Sodium Percarbonate to first clean the deck, then power wash. If I do that , woukd I also need to do oxalid acid? If so, how apply? (Application method on page says ‘Coming soon’.) Tk you
Hello Shelly,
Glad to hear you are staining your deck and considering Expert Wood Care Stain & Sealant. Great job taking such good care of your deck.
If there is heavy organic growth, spray Eco-Cleaner (sodium percarbonate) on the fence and allow it to dwell and activate for 15 minutes. Pressure wash clean then apply your Wood Brightener in the same manner. Allow 15 minutes again and rinse clean.
The Cleaners will remove organic growth, dirt, and bleached tannins, while the Brightener will remove oxides like rust causing a darker hue to the wood.
Good luck and call us if you have any questions! (615) 785-1861
We would love to see your project when it's done :)
Eco-cleaner can be substituted for Wood Cleaner if the wood is significantly dirty.
